rewrite the code in our brain software brain

In the previous post we saw how our behavior in response to a series of "brain program" that were "installed" in our brains over the years, from our childhood. The first "programmers" were the parents who were joined by teachers, friends, media. Of course most of all ourselves contribute to our "programming" through internal communication and continual reworking of our experiences.

ports of entry through which all information entering our brain are the five senses. Everything we touch, see, hear is represented and processed by our mind. Everything we do, our actions, the concepts that we express our beliefs, our way of being is a function of how we acquired input information and the way in which we subjectively elaborated.

The process is fairly simple: just born I am in a situation where my brain is completely "virgin" (we might say that is "formatted"). In fact, there are some basic software already installed in our brain, wanting to continue the comparison with the personal computer could say that we, like the PC, we have a BIOS that contains some basic programs (such as those that regulate the basic functions of our body). Over the years, forfeited information through the senses. This enormous amount of information conveniently organized and revised conditions our way of being, that is, our behavior.
E 'own set of information accumulated over the years that allows us to subjectively distinugere the beautiful from the ugly, or guide us in relationship with others, or makes us choose between this or that course of study and so on .. .

So if what we are is because of the way in which we have acquired, developed and organized input information, then to change the way we will be "sufficient" process differently, and re-organize the information we already have within us and those acquired in the future .

We can rewrite a program installed in our brains? Sure! That 's what we do every day. There was a time when we believed in Santa Claus since then some of our program has undoubtedly been rewritten. In most cases we ourselves to rewrite the codes of our programs, as we acquire new knowledge and new experiences.

often interpret change as a route to a clash against our way of being. We believe that change means try at all costs to win our internal resistance , perhaps appealing to our willpower.

Suppose you want to quit smoking. We have a program that encourages us to smoke cigarettes because it makes us associate with a feeling of relaxation and pleasure. Then we have the "willpower" that instead encourages us to pursue our goal even if it means having to suffer. Now every time a person tries to quit smoking puts the two programs against each other , in a sort of imaginary tug of war. The final result depends on which of the two programs is "stronger."
Instead of opposing two aspects of our personality, we may decide to "take" the behavior that we do not like, "open" the code of that program and simply rewrite . So instead of relying on our willpower, we can rewrite our "smoking habit" of pain in order to associate the image of the cigarette and not more than pleasure. We can be conditioned in such a way that gives us the idea of \u200b\u200bsmoking unpleasant feelings. And here is that our process of change will be very easier and more lasting

The goal of future posts will be to illustrate the techniques to rewrite programs (ie, behaviors) that do not like. P hy, instead of having our own behavior as opposed to another characteristic of our personality (the "willpower", usu weaker), we changed our system of internal representations with respect to that particular behavior. Now rewrite the code of our programs is not a rational process (though a prior rational analysis improves the process). Rationally the smoker knows that damage your health and seriously affect the quality of life, yet this rational analysis is not sufficient to change that behavior, to rewrite the code for this program.
